More than 10 Nollywood stars flew to Ghana over the weekend to support GH actress Nadia Buari as she received this year’s Showbiz Honouree.
Shamefully, though, just a handful of local actors showed up. Meanwhile, cargo-hold of Nollywood stars came purposely to lend their support, including Dakore Egbuson, Emeka Enyiocha, Uche Jumbo, Ernest Obi, Onuma Florence, Benita Nzeribe and four others.
Major local stars seen around were Naa Ashorkor, Lucky Lawson, Ekow Smith-Asante, Vivian Ajo Achor.
Not even Nadia’s closest pals on the screen, Jackie Appiah, Majid Michel, John Dumelo came over though they were all in the country at the time. Stacey Amoateng, ceo of Em-Klan Events, organizers of Showbiz Honours, confirmed inviting the above actors who are also part of the grade ‘A’ actors in Ghana (Same as Nadia). The 2010 Showbiz Honouree came off on May 1 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
Before the event, Nadia was kept away from the public, at a resort in the Volta region, and whisked to the venue on the event day, with little knowledge about what or who to expect. Her night of surprises began when videotape of goodwill messages started rolling. Reggie Rockstone described her as “too shy to be an actress but too good not to be one”. International R&B artiste Keith Sweat of “Twisted” fame congratulated her and apologized for not being present.
At the end of the day, Nadia went home with more goodies than she could carry, as follows:
