Accra, Feb. 16, GNA - Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) on Tuesday inaugurated a Steering Committee on the Africa Awake Project to promote the cultural values of Ghana during World Cup 2010 in South Africa and beyond. The membership made up of musicians, media event organizers and government representatives will collaborate and work to ensure full participation in the project.
The project seeks showcase Africans as one people with shared interest as a catalyst of socio-economic growth through music and cultural activities as well as support the six African participating countries in the World cup. They are South Africa, the host country, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Cameroon and Algeria.
Madam Rebecca Amu Aboagye, Chief Director, Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture, inaugurating the committee said, due to the excellent performance of the national senior football team Black Stars in Angola 2010, much attention would be focused on Ghana during the tournament in South Africa. She urged the media to report on issues that would portray Ghana as a unique country in the world.
Madam Aboagye observed that success of the project would depend on positive reportage therefore the media should endeavour to highlight the project to generate interest and support throughout Africa. Mr. David Dontoh, Chairman of the Steering Committee, noted that the project required tremendous support to bring Ghana and Africa to the spotlight.
He explained that the project was about branding and marketing Africa especially Ghana to the world, and called on institutions, organizations and the public for support. The Africa Awake project seeks project Ghana and Africa through music, dance, and other cultural activities using platforms such as the World cup in South Africa 2010.
