Nana Poku Ashis and Yaw Sarpong
Nana Poku Ashis, the manager for Gospel artist Yaw Sarpong, has shared his insights on the feud between Adwoa Penamang, the wife of Yaw Sarpong, and his colleague, Maame Tiwaa.
According to him, contrary to allegations, Maame Tiwaa had been a loyal friend and collaborator to Yaw Sarpong.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on June 24, 2024, Nana Poku Ashis recounted instances where Maame Tiwaa would insist on giving her earnings to Yaw Sarpong, believing that his well-being was necessary.
“She served this man for 40 years. I have been their manager for a while, and I know how loyal the woman is. If you ever want to see anybody who is loyal and you haven't seen one before, see Maame Tiwaa. There are times we've played gigs, and when I want to divide the money, what she would tell me is ‘add mine to Worfa. When he is okay, I'm okay."
“They've sold records upon records, and the woman has nothing. What she will tell you when you are trying to question her is ‘I was nobody. I know the family I come from, and Worfa picked me up and gave me the limelight. That alone is a treasure for me. So I am okay,” he said.
Addressing allegations that Maame Tiwaa was in a sexual affair with Yaw Sarpong, Ashis firmly stated that he had no interest in the artists' private lives and was only interested in the business aspects of their careers.
“I don't want to know. Not my business. I do the business. I don't do the family,” he said.
He further expressed his disappointment in the family of Yaw Sarpong, especially the children, whom he believes should have exercised better judgment given their education and awareness of social media's impact.
“For anybody to ever take their father to the gutters is harmful to the man. I spoke to the man right after the interview, and he was in tears. Right after their interview, he was in tears. He was watching the thing on live TV. It would have killed him because of his health issues. He doesn't need this. No matter how the situation stretches, there are ways we could have solved this problem,” he said.
Background
In a live studio broadcast on Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, Adwoa Penamang accused Tiwaa of having an affair with her husband and taking over his care since his illness.
Maame Tiwaa, however, denied the allegations, stating that she stepped in to care for Yaw Sarpong only after Adwoa refused to do so.
The situation intensified with both parties exchanging harsh words and accusations.
Yaw Sarpong, responding to allegations, denied any romantic involvement with his singing partner, Tiwaa.
He clarified that his marriage with Pinamang ended 20 years ago after she left him and their children, especially during a period when he was gravely ill.
Sarpong also noted that their marriage was never legally formalized, having only conducted traditional rites.
