Veteran Ghanaian highlife musician, Jewel Ackah, has predicted victory for President John Dramani Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 7 December polls.

Mr Ackah, who composed the party’s anthem ‘Arise Arise’, has expressed optimism that his “evergreen" campaign song would help Mr Mahama retain power.

The highlife figure, who is one of the many musicians who popularised highlife music in the 1980s and 1990s, was speaking ahead of the NDC’s campaign launch in Cape Coast on Sunday, 14 August.

He emphasised that President Mahama had achieved enough within his short stay in office to merit another term.

“Look at the Cape Coast Stadium and so many other things that John Mahama has done, you cannot name them. This one I can say took only three years because one year was for court,” he said in an interview with Joy FM.

Mr Ackah has 27 albums to his credit and is married with six children.

Meanwhile, security in the Central regional capital has been beefed up ahead of the launch in the home region of late President John Evans Atta Mills, as part of preparations for the December presidential and parliamentary elections.

All leading members of the NDC, including President John Dramani Mahama, and his vice, Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, as well as former President Jerry John Rawlings, ministers of state and Members of Parliament, are in attendance.

Also, the party expects about 60,000 supporters to be attending the event, which is taking place at the newly-built Cape Coast Stadium.

Security in the area has been beefed up to foil any mishap. At least, over 600 security personnel have been deployed to the area.

NDC paraphernalia are on sale in the area, specifically at the Cape Coast Stadium.
