Ghanaian star actor, Majid Michel gave a lecture at the University of Louisville, Kentucky USA last Friday, September 30 about “Being An Actor in the African Film Industry”. The actor also received a special honour from the university for his contributions to Ghanaian/African cinema.
The lecture was made at the invitation of the Department of Pan African Studies, which is a department at the University of Louisville where courses on African culture, history, film and politics are taught at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Majid discussed the fascinating history of the video filmmaking in Ghana and elsewhere in Africa, how acting and technical talent has developed over the years, as well as the financial and technical challenges that filmmakers have to overcome to market their work. The lecture was also preceded by a screening of the award-winning film, ‘Somewhere in Africa’ to a diverse audience of professors, students, members of the Ghanaian Association of Louisville among others.
The event was co-sponsored by several University departments and institutes, including the Muhammad Ali Institute for Peace and Justice, the Commonwealth Center for the Humanities & Society, & the Commission on Diversity and Racial Equality.
Meanwhile, ‘Somewhere in Africa ‘will also be showing in Atlanta on October 8 after a successful premiere in Los Angeles on September 24
