Malaika Beauties On Local Tourism Trip

The local tourism task is one of the most anticipated episodes of the Miss Malaika Ghana series for both the delegates and for patrons who are excited to watch the unveiling of some of the hidden beautiful locations here in Ghana.

For the delegates, it was the one opportunity to explore and learn more about their country to be well informed as Tourism Ambassadors of the country.

The tourism weekend began at the weekend with an elaborate congratulatory diner at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra with some A-List celebrities. From there, the delegates set off on Sunday August 26 for the beautiful Aburi Botanical Gardens, where a ready tour guide gave them a well rehearsed lesson on all the exotic tree types that the Garden housed and the myriad purposes they served.

From there, the ladies headed for the legendary Tetteh Quarshie’s cocoa farm in Mampong-Akuapem, the first farm of its kind planted by Tetteh Quashie when he brought the cocoa bean to Ghana.

Here, the delegates found that contrary to popular belief, Tetteh Quashie did not swallow the Cocoa beans but rather hid them in his luggage when he was returning from Fernandopo, currently Equitorial Guinea. The ladies were given the opportunity to taste the cocoa in its raw state and take some away with them as souvenirs.

The next stop on the busy itinerary was the awe inspiring Boti Falls in Koforidua. The ladies descended about 200 stairs in order to get to the waterfalls. Fortunately for them, they were able to go close to the waterfall with some entering to take pictures. The water was at 6 ft due to low rainfall. However, it was a beautiful sight.

The delegates ended the day at the beautiful Beige Village at New Abirim, about three hours drive from Koforidua. Monday was spent leisurely at the hotel with the ladies taking part in exciting activities including golf lessons, fishing, swimming, fun games and a movie time.

Tuesday morning started off with a tour to the Mines of Newmont Ghana (Twifo project). This insightful visit was followed by a trip back to Aburi to visit with the Chief and Queen Mother.
