A 37-YEAR-OLD man, Lawrence Adjetey who allegedly raped his next-door neighbour?s wife at Fetteh, has been arraigned before the Swedru Circuit Court. Adjetey?s plea was not taken and refused bail.

The presiding judge, Mr P. K. Richardson, therefore remanded him into prison custody for another docket prepared on the case and prosecuted before a high court.

Chief Inspector Lydia Vondee said the complainant and her husband went to bed on the night of May 18, when her husband came out to sleep on the verandah due to the heat indoors.

She said the woman who was fast asleep suddenly felt a man having sex with her. At first she thought it was her husband and did not resist. But the way the suspect did it forcibly made her take a good look at him as she realised he did it differently from her husband?s style.

She then shouted for help, and the suspect bolted. He, however, ran out of luck as he was apprehended by neighbours who handed him over to the police at Gomoa Fetteh.

Madam Vondee quoted Adjetey as having admitted committing the offence and begged for forgiveness because he was thirsty and went to drink water in the couple?s room at that hour.

After drinking the water, he came out of the room and relaxed outside for a while but decided to go back and have sex with the sleeping woman who was lying supine and alone on her marital bed, Madam Vondee added further.
