A bus conductor who suspected his 90-year-old aunt of being a witch and subjected her to beatings, resulting in her becoming bedridden, has been granted a ?10 million bail by the Swedru Circuit Court.

Bismark Antwi, alias Kwesi Antwi, pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing harm at the court presided over by Mr Paul Kwesi Richardson.

Inspector Comfort Darko told the court that the old woman, Efua Eyiaba, and Antwi are relatives living at Gomoa Benso.

She said at about 5 p.m. on March 17, this year, Antwi went to the old lady’s house and told her that a spiritualist he consulted had revealed to him that she was responsible for his and his sister’s sickness.

Antwi further accused his aunt of being a witch and before the old lady could respond, Antwi seized her walking stick and hit her several times, the prosecutor said.

Maame Eyiaba sustained serious injuries and bled profusely. A witness who saw Antwi beating his aunt attempted to arrest him but he bolted. On June 30, this year, the witness spotted Antwi, arrested him and handed him over to the police.

Antwi, in his explanation, insisted that he consulted a spiritualist who told him that his aunt was a witch and that she was responsible for his and his sister’s sickness
