A Ghanaian is now in police custody for forcing his Nigerian girlfriend to abort a five-month-old pregnancy.

The Ghanaian, Mr. Fredrick Ishan Beedu, residing at 7 Moricass Road, Agege, was said to have given his girlfriend, Miss Bosede Odeyemi, the sum of N2,500 to procure an abortion.

Bosede, residing at 3 Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Idimangoro in Agege, Lagos had dragged her Ghanaian boyfriend to the Agege Grade 'A' Customary Court over claims of neglect.

According to her, the man met her in April this year and had sex with her in May after which she became pregnant.

She said the man first gave her N1,000 in July and later N1,500 in September to procure abortion.

She noted that by September, the pregnancy was five-month-old and the doctor insisted on collecting N10,000 for the abortion. Her mother, however, intervened and prevented the abortion from taking place.

As a result, the Ghanaian became angry and denied the pregnancy.

The Ghanaian, however, told the court that he met his lover in June and had fun with her in July, noting that he was not responsible for the pregnancy.

He admitted giving her N1,000 in August to travel to Ibadan and another N1,500 when he travelled to Ghana.

The court, in its judgement, said it believed the testimonies of Abosede and ordered that he should take care of her pregnancy till delivery and thereafter take care of the baby till the age of two years when blood test may be ordered.

The court also ordered the Ghanaian to be detained in police custody until his brother comes to bail him after writing an undertaking.
