For several years, residents in and around Weija in Accra have regarded Kwame Ansah as a mad man. Hence he was left to go scot-free whenever he was caught stealing.This continued until recently when the supposed madman was caught red handed attempting to rape a married woman. He was subsequently arrested and arraigned before the Pokuase Court.
P&P investigations indicate that the complainant, Rebecca Essuman is a seamstress by profession and lives at Taifa, while the accused, Kwame Ansah is a sign-writer residing at Weija. The case continued that on June 12, 2006, at about 4:30pm, the complainant left her husband, Francis Essuman, to urinate behind their house.
While Rebecca was urinating, Kwame Ansah who was hiding in a nearby bush rushed and pushed her to the ground, held her back and attempted to remove her underwear to have sex with her. This resulted in a struggle during which the complainant's shouts for help attracted her husband and others to the scene.
Kwame Ansah on seeing that he had been hemmed in immediately went on his knees to beg. But Rebecca and her husband marched him to the Mile 7 Police Station. During Police investigations, it came to light that the accused had been stealing in the area, but anytime he was caught he pretended to be insane and was set free. He was remanded in prison custody to reappear later.
