Man Impregnates Daughter

When a father started having sexual affairs with his own daughter, he least bargained that pregnancy would result.

John Gokpada, a 40-year-old farmer from the Volta Region, is not only expecting his child by his own daughter, but has also been slapped with a three-year sentence by an Accra circuit tribunal for incest.

Narrating the facts of the case to the tribunal, chaired by Imoru Ziblim, the prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Tawiah Boison, said the victim is a second year student of Ve, in the Volta Region, and daughter of Gokpada.

He said during the Easter holidays the victim’s step-mother went to a convention leaving the victim and Gokpada alone in the house.

He said at midnight Gokpada forcibly had sexual intercourse with his daughter.

According to the prosecutor, the victim later fell sick and went to the hospital only to be told that she was pregnant.

The victim then confronted her father and told him about the pregnancy. But Gokpada who did not take kindly to the news threatened to kill the girl if she ever mention his name as the one responsible for the pregnancy.

The prosecutor said the victim who could no longer contain the burden and threats from her father ran to Accra and reported the matter to the police.

Gokpada was later apprehended but he denied the offence.

He was however, charged with the offence and convicted by the tribunal.
