Man in court for possessing fake 10,000-cedi notes

Asamankese (E/R), July 29, GNA - A 52-year-old unemployed has appeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court charged with possessing fake 10,000-cedi currency notes.

Afari Nyarko pleaded not guilty was remanded until July 30 to help the Police to locate the man he alleged gave him the currency notes at Adenta in Accra.

Police Detective Inspector Osei Owusu said about two months ago Nyarko engaged the complainants, Henry Tetteh and Samuel Tettey Kwadwo, to saw timber boards for him.

On the night of July 20 Nyarko paid 1.2 million cedis in 10,000-cedi notes to the complainants and told them to work harder. During the early hours of the following day Nyarko paid additional 280,000 cedis also in 10,000-cedi notes.

The two men later detected that the 1.480 million cedis paid to them by Nyarko were all fake and confronted Nyarko.

They arrested the accused person and handed him over to the Police. He told the Police that someone in Accra gave the money to him. The Judge, Mr S.S. Appiah, ordered that Nyarko should help the Police to locate the man he claimed gave the fake notes to him.

"You should help the Police to bust the syndicate circulating fake currency", he said.
