Asamankese (E/R), March 11, GNA - The Asamankese Circuit Court has fined Kwaku Abotsi, a palm wine producer, GH¢200 for stealing GH¢150 belonging to his girlfriend.

Abotsi, who pleaded guilty to stealing, would go to jail for six months if he fails to pay the fine.

The court also ordered him to return the stolen money to his girlfriend.

The prosecution told the court that Abotsi met the woman at Takrowase in the Kwaebibirem District last Christmas and proposed love to her and she agreed. It said Abotsi stayed with the lady for three days but after he had left, she detected that GH¢90 out of GH¢240 she kept under her bed was missing.

The prosecution said the complainant suspected Abotsi as the one who took the money and confronted him but he denied. The woman later told Abotsi of his intention to consult a "juju man" over the theft but he dissuaded her from doing so and promised to make up for the stolen cash.

The complainant then decided to keep the remaining GH¢150 in a drawer of her wardrobe after marking the notes. Prosecution said on January 30, Abotsi asked his girlfriend to accompany him to Akwatia to visit a friend and she agreed. On reaching Akwatia, she requested GH¢2.00 to enable her to style her hair at a salon.

Abotsi gave her the money but after collecting and inspecting it, she realized that it was part of her marked notes. She therefore went back home only to detect that the GH¢150 she had kept in her drawer had also disappeared. The next day she returned to Akwatia and confronted the boyfriend over the missing money in the presence of witnesses and he admitted stealing only GH¢45 and not GH¢150.
