Gospel musician Selina Boateng has listed three things she would do differently before going into another marriage, as well as advice she would give to individuals preparing to enter a new marriage, following the end of her six-year marriage.

Speaking in an interview on Angel FM, the gospel singer said should she get the opportunity to advise individuals getting into a new marriage, she would emphasise that patience is very important.

According to Selina, it is “war” when one gets into marriage, but she clarified that she was not saying this to scare anyone, but rather speaking from what she knows and has experienced herself.

She argued that most people only admire the fancy aspects of marriage, particularly the big weddings, and want to get married without adequately preparing for or considering the difficult side of marriage.

“If I am to advise individuals getting into a new marriage, I would tell them that patience is very important because when you get there, it can be war. I’m not saying this to scare anyone, but I’m speaking from what I know and what I have experienced. People often want to get married because of the fancy aspects while neglecting the difficult side of marriage,” Selina stated.

Marriage, she said, is not as smooth as many people may assume, describing it as “extremely rough” and stressing that it takes someone with wisdom to stand boldly in marriage.

On the second thing she would advise, Selina Boateng said counselling before marriage, if she had her way, would not be limited to only six months.

She believes it should be a continuous process because people grow every day, and at every stage of marriage, there is something new to learn.

“If I had my way, counselling would not be limited to just six months. It should be a continuous process because marriage is like school. You never really finish learning; at every stage, there is something new to learn,” she stated.

On the third, the “Nyame Bohye” hitmaker noted that she would want individuals going into marriage to be God-fearing.

She cautioned against allowing peer pressure to influence the decision to get married, particularly when people feel they are getting older and therefore need to marry quickly.

According to her, such pressure should not be the reason anyone enters into marriage.

Selina Boateng confirmed in 2025 that her six-year marriage to Isaac Berchie who she married on December 7, 2019, had ended.

Selina said she feels no shame about her marital status and has not faced stigma since the split.
