Labourer remanded in custody for causing damage.

Tema, May 27, GNA - A labourer who intentionally caused damage to a wooden box that contained the personal effects of a trader has been remanded into police custody by the Tema Circuit Court "A". Kwame Kpordzikolo pleaded not guilty to charges of causing damage and will re-appear on June 6, 2004.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that on April 3, 2004, the complainant Mr Samuel Efoba who stays at GHACEM food market picked up a quarrel with Mr Emmanuel Akwetey and stabbed him with a knife. She said Efoba was arrested and kept in police cells, adding, when the accused and some friends of Mr Akwetey, now at large, heard of the incident, became annoyed, took the complainant's wooden box containing his personal effects to a distant place and set it ablaze.

Chief Inspector Assunta said complainant's wife who was at the scene reported the case to the Railways and Harbour police, and the accused was arrested, and after investigations he was charged with the offence. 27 May 04
