The Imoru Ziblim Circuit Court in Accra last week jailed Mustapha Mukaila, a mechanic four years with hard labour for stealing a motorbike at the Korle-Bu Hospital. He was convicted on his own plea.
The Prosecutor, Inspector E.T. Boison told the court that the complainant is a Programme Organizer at the Korle-Bu Blood Bank and the accused person, a mechanic who lives at Achimota in Accra.
On May 8, this year at about 4:30pm, the complainant was at his office when he heard the sound of his Yamaha motorbike being started.
He rushed out of his office, but the accused had bolted away with the motorbike. He shouted for help but the accused had already escaped through the security gate.
A driver who was at the scene gave the accused a hot chase and finally closed in on him. Some onlookers him and the accused was apprehended and handed over to the Korle-Bu Police. He was processed before court that day and the following day the verdict was passed on him.
The accused in his statement to the police, admitted the offence but claimed someone had asked him to come for the bike for repairs. After the investigations he was charged with the offence and the court found him guilty.
