Mimi for Miss World

After successfully emerging winner at last year’s domestic event and subsequently going on to undertake her project work with the International Organization for Migration, where she supported the campaign against child trafficking on the coast of Kete Krachi in the Volta Region, Mimi Areme is to represent Ghana at the upcoming Miss World competition slated for the 30th of October in the Chinese town of Sanya.

Mimi, who will be leaving Accra on the 30th of September, will be joined by some 101 contestants selected from across the world in a battle for the highly regarded Miss World crown.

The twenty year old, 5’ 8” lady from the Volta Region, has since been putting in extensive last minute preparations in areas that could possibly come up for competition, all in a bid to put up a far more encouraging performance than what was achieved last year by Ghana’s representative.

This year’s Miss World, will be the 60th to be held in the event’s history after a debut in 1951 to celebrate a festival of British celebrations. It has over the years, been the gathering point for beauty pageant winners in their respective countries.

The eventual winner will take over from 2009 winner Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar. The event is once again being hosted by China after Vietnam, originally towed in line as hosts, backed out of the hosting contract.

Nevertheless, the organizers are expecting a good outing on the 30th of October. Surely, Ghana’s hopes of winning the title for the first time, rests on Mimi Areme, as the over 22 million Ghanaians look forward to that grand entry onto the stage of the glamorous Miss World competition.

Mimi’s trip to China is made possible by Media Whizz Kids, organizers of the Miss Ghana beauty pageant.
