The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Catherine Afeku has visited victims of Sunday waterfalls disaster who were taken to the Kintampo Government Hospital for treatment.
She interacted with victims who were admitted to the hospital and expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the 19 persons who perished in the Kintampo waterfalls disaster.
Madam Afeku expressed shocked over the tragedy when she received first hand information about how the incident occurred.
“It is really painful for your child to go for excursion only to hear that a tragedy like this has happened to him or her. It is a great loss to the families and the country as a whole and wish the those in the hospital speedy recovery.”
The Member of Parliament for Evalue-Gwira-Ajomoro Constituency was accompanied by the Vice-president-Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia, Minister of Interior-Ambrose Dery, National Security – Albert Kan Dapaah and Brong Ahafo Regional Minister-Kwaku Asomah- Cheremeh.
Revellers, mostly students had gone to the Waterfalls to wind down their weekend but ended up being killed when heavy trees fell from the top of the waterfalls and landed on them, after a rainstorm.
Officials of the Ghana National Fire Service and the Police including other disaster management officials rushed to the disaster scene to rescue lives.
