Ghanaians have shared divergent thoughts about the performance of Tourism, Arts and Culture minister-designate, Catherine Afeku when she appeared before the appointment committee this week.

Whilst some individuals were not impressed with her performance, many others believe she gave right answers to the questions she was asked.

One of the many entertainers who was satisfied with her plan for the ministry during the vetting is legendary highlife musician, Rex Omar.

The “Paapa” singer in an interview with Hitz FM’s MzGee said he was in love with Mrs. Afeku’s intelligence and composure when she sat before the committee to answer them.

According to the musician who campaigned for the leading opposition party, NDC prior to the 2016 general election, madam Catherine Afeku can help the ministry should she become minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture.

“Generally I was impressed because her ministry is very broad. Based on the questions that were asked, I liked her intelligence composure and she also seems to be an affable person.

There isn’t a single person that has been sent to any ministry that knows all so from what I heard during her vetting, I think that if she deals with the people in the various sector relating to that ministry, she can do something.” he opined.

Commenting on the committee’s focus on tourism neglecting the creative arts sector when the minister designate for Tourism, Arts and Culture appeared before them, Rex Omar stated, “that has always been the problem. The committee didn’t know, the country doesn’t know and the policy makers don’t also know.

“The committee asked some intelligent questions in relation to tourism because they feel it is something they can touch but when you talk about music, they still don’t see the business aspect of it. They didn’t know and you can’t fault them.”
