Sparrow Productions Ltd, the new organisers gave the launching ceremony a touch of class, in the form of a grand cocktail which was interspersed with cultural performances by the Adehyeman Cultural Group.
The unveiling of the new Miss Ghana Logo to launch the new face of the pageant was done by Nana Akomea, Minister of Information who congratulated the young organisers on the bold step they have taken and encouraged them not to relent in their efforts to make Ghana proud.
Serena Naa Ashie Roye, Miss Ghana 2003 also expressed confidence in the new organisers, ?the new organiser Sparrow Productions is a young and vibrant company who I believe will add a new dimension to the organisation of the pageant, their youthful ideas and fresh approach should make a difference to the young contestant?s attitude and approach.?
She told the august crowd that winning the crown has been a life changing experience and urged her peers to participate in the upcoming event, ?I would like all potential contestants to know that winning the title of Miss Ghana is an honour, and a once in a lifetime experience. I urge you all to come and participate, as this contest will be a positive influence in your lives.?
An exciting part of the launch was when excerpts of past events were shown to guests, with a line up of all the winners of the prestigious crown.At the end of a brief yet very impressive ceremony, the organisers convinced everyone that they are indeed ready to take off and do so in a grand style.
Miss Shirley Frimpong-Manso, Managing Director of Sparrow Productions stressed, ?Our focus this year would be to dig deep and cut threadbare into the fabric of this nation to bring to fore talented girls, with verve and spirit, persona and presence, intelligence and a sense of purpose such that when they wear the crown of Miss Ghana and represent this great nation across international borders, they stand tall and do us all proud.?
The next step for this journey, according to Miss Frimpong-Manso, is the recruitment of contestants in the month of April from all the 10 regions of Ghana, ?these contestants would then be distilled over four zonal contests at Bolga, Kumasi, Koforidua and Takoradi and five ladies form each zonal contest would be brought up to the finals, making 20 contestants in the final, ensuring a good and representative collection from the 10 regions of the nation.?
To generate public interest and get them involved in the final decision making of the winner, the organisers will introduce a public reaction scheme to be sponsored by Somotex, ?the winner of the public reaction scheme will get an all expenses paid trip to accompany Miss Ghana 2004 on her trip to the Miss World contest,? a promise by Sparrow Productions Ltd.
Miss Jayne Awoonor-Williams, events manager of Sparrow Productions hinted Showbiz that they have representatives in all tertiary institutions who will help to scout for contestants.What is in store for Miss Ghana 2004? A glamorous VW Polo, furniture and other goods, a sizeable education fund which the organisers believe will offer the winner an opportunity to educate herself to build her career the way she deems fit.The grand final of Miss Ghana 2004 is slated for the early October.
