The Ministry of Information will on Wednesday November 3, 2010 host the first Ghana Film Review Conference at the Accra International Conference Centre.

This was disclosed by the Deputy Minister for Information, Hon. James Agyenim Boateng in a brief address at the launch of the Ghana Movie Awards held at the Alisa Hotel, North Ridge last week.

According to him: “The Conference will attract some 200 participants at the end of which Government expects that a new agenda aimed at positively promoting Ghana's culture and brand to the outside world will be set”.

The Conference is aimed primarily at reviving interest in the local film industry by: 1.Reviewing the Cinematography Bill 2.Positively engaging with the key players in the industry; 3.INTRODUCING THE BUSINESS OF FILM AND FILM FINANCING TO THE FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS;

4.Introduce to participants new technologies in film production. 5.Emphasize the importance of promoting our culture in our films, and 6.How to use film to promote Ghana's tourism

He said: “Ghanaian Film Industry is not one that we can be proud of either as industry practitioners or consumers of the films that are produced” “It is indeed a sad commentary that a review of our films reveals in many cases very disjointed story lines, lack of message or an inability to craft whatever the intended message is.

Not to mention poor technical production, over-reliance on sexual scenes, themes which many producers think is what boosts sales”. Hi Newspaper will bring you more details soon.
