The Member of Parliament for Manso-Adubia constituency in the Ashanti Region, Mr Frimpong Yaw Addo has called on movie makers based in Kumasi to modernise their stories to suit contemporary times rather than always setting them in outdated times.

He noted that the movies produced in Kumasi have not changed over the years because there is a market for what they do regardless of the setting and the outdated story lines.

According to him, a change in setting and storylines to suit modern trends will help the industry to grow better.

“Ghanaian movie makers should move with time and change from producing movies with old story lines to modern times. They have not changed because they still have the market. And they have the market because people are still within the old belief system,” he said on Entertainment Capital on Accra100.5FM.

He told show host Bismark Boachie (DJ Premier): “They need to move on and produce movies with contemporary ideas and storylines. But the contemporary issues being discussed today in movies is as good as when I was a little kid, where people are living in compound houses, village life, stories about witchcraft and these are the same old things they are doing in this 21st century. That is the only challenge with the movies so far,” adding that “the film producers must check that so that they can transit because if you look at Hollywood movies done in the 1980s and now, they have moved on but we are still close to nature.”
