The mother of a 16-year-old boy has appealed to the Suhum Magistrate Court to refer her son, Isaac Aburi for spiritual deliverance instead of committing him to prison.

Madam Abena Aburi said spiritual deliverance was the only means her teenage son, who is facing trial for the second time on unlawful entry and stealing, could be freed from the hold of the "evil".

She expressed fears that imprisonment could worsen her son's plight saying he could become an armed robber when he goes to jail.

Isaac allegedly entered the room of a complainant sometime in December and stole personal effects and was arrested.

The presiding Magistrate, Lt-Col Alex Kofi Laatey Ayerh (Rtd), expressed concern about the conduct of the accused but considering the mother's plea, granted the accused bail to enable the Department of Social Welfare to monitor his lifestyle and report to the court on next sitting on February 21.
