MultiChoice, the pioneer of Pay TV in Africa, has announced the launch of DStv on Demand in line with the company’s commitment to provide subscribers with innovative and unique products, tailored to give subscriber’s unprecedented control over their viewing choices.

Through DStv on Demand, DStv Premium subscribers with a PVR decoder are able to catch up on their favourite TV series and sports highlights at a time that is convenient to them. This service is only available to subscribers with a PVR decoder, as content needs to be stored on the hard disk of the PVR decoder.

DStv on Demand provides access to 20 hours of the most popular TV series and sports magazines shows for up to 7 days after broadcast on one of the DStv channels. This service was previously available only on SD PVR decoder and is now also available on HD PVR decoders.

Content is chosen based on the popularity of programming and the availability of broadcasting rights thereof. It is then downloaded to the PVR during times when a subscriber has no scheduled recordings, and is updated regularly. DStv on Demand does not impact the subscriber’s use of recording space available on the PVR.

Collins Khumalo, President of MultiChoice Africa, said: “MultiChoice Africa is constantly driven to ensure that our subscribers are delighted with the DStv offering and we are always looking for new and innovative ways to deliver ‘so much more’ to our subscribers. The launch of DStv on Demand is another one of our technology innovations that puts us at the forefront of pay television in Africa.”

There is currently no additional charge for the DStv on Demand service; however MultiChoice may at a later stage introduce options where subscribers can pay for selected content.
