Music Awards winners call on President Mills

Accra, April 10, GNA- President John Evans Atta Mills on Thursday played host to award winners of this year's Ghana music awards, at the Castle, Osu, and lauded the contributions of music artistes, and their expression of love for people.

"You have music for every occasion; we are there to serve, we want to ensure we create the necessary environment for the growth of the music industry," President Mills said. President Mills said the artistes should be proud of what they were doing, adding that, they represented a part of the human resources, which Government aimed at developing through its policy of investing in people.


The President reminded the award winners to be careful of the music messages they churned to avoid the disaster of negative messages brought to the people, assuring them of looking into concerns for the necessary action. "It is my prayer that you'll be able to get what is due you," President Mills said, adding' "we are there to encourage you." Vice President Mr. John Mahama called for infusion of more home-made music into the modern one.

He assured them that Government would ensure they were given adequate protection so that they would not live in penury after their hard work. He however, called for accountability among artistes. Mr Alex Asum-Ahensan, Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture promised that Government addresses their concerns, especially the Legislative Instrument for the industry got to its final stages. Mrs Diana Hopeson, an Executive Member of the Association appealed to government for a bus to enhance the operations of the artistes.
