Music pays - Teephlow

Ghanaian rapper, Teephlow, has indicated doing music pays as he has enjoyed plenty money from the profession.

Speaking with Natalia Andoh about his finances in relation to music on Class91.3FM, the “Warning” hitmaker said: “I think it pays, it does, music pays. I have enjoyed a lot of money from music. At the end of the day, it still comes back to the grind and how you market what you have because people are building mansions in the industry which means everybody can. It just has to do with marketing and everything.”

Touching on M.anifest’s comment that music is the wrong profession if one wants to amass wealth, Teephlow said: “Music is about money, its show business. The ‘biz’ there definitely has to do with something financial. I’m sure what he (M.anifest) meant is that the paramount motive should be passion. That’s what I feel.”

He explained that: “The reason why I like to bump on hip hop beat even though people are talking about afrobeat is not because I can’t sing or is not because I can’t do afrobeat or anything, it’s because I love hip-hop… Me doing afrobeat is me trying to entertain my fans or take them to a different level. But this is me, so I love being myself. That’s where the passion comes in before we look at the money aspect.”

Born Lukeman Baidoo, Teephlow hails from Cape Coast in the Central Region. He began rapping in the year 2012 when he was in his second year at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Teephlow came to the limelight through the maiden edition of the Next Big Thing show where he came second to winner Strongman.
