Musical concert held to mark Juneteenth

Cape Coast, June 21 GNA- A musical concert dubbed 'Juneteenth' to commemorate the return of descendants of former African slaves in the Diaspora to Africa has been held at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast. Lord Kenya, a renowned musician, Black Prophet, Queen Binta from Accra, DJ Joey Jay from the United Kingdom, as well as groups like 'Ambassador 14, 247 thrilled the audience with superb performances that sent them dancing deep into the night.

Nana Okofo Ababio, Chairman of the Juneteenth Committee, said the former slaves had returned home to build a strong and unified Africa. "Many more will soon come for us to strategize and join forces by sharing our expertise to help move Africa forward in development," he said. Nana Ababio said the committee had embarked on an educational sponsorship programme for 35 needy but brilliant children. In a related development, Ghana Telecom beat Cape Coast Police 2-1 in a special football match played as part of activities marking the day.

After trailing 1-1 at half time, Ghana Police jumped on top of the match and bombarded their opponents' goal area with a number of shots, but failed to find the net. Telecom warmed up and in the 70th minute took absolute control and put persistent pressure on the Police, which earned them a goal in the 75th minute. Ghana Police invested all efforts to equalize but could not do so until full time.
