Ghanaian Afrobeats star Atumpan has hit hard at his home country Ghana for the ongoing power crisis, lamenting the country’s inability to provide stable power after fifty-eight years of independence.

Ghana, then Gold Coast on the 6th of March 1957 became the first country south of the Sahara to gain Independence from Great Britain. The leader of the independence struggle and the first President of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in his speech said that; the new African is ready to fight his own battles and show that after all the black man is capable of managing his own affairs’

“58 years down the line, have Ghanaians shown to the world that they are capable of managing their own affairs especially now that the country is plagued with Energy crisis? The answer is yours”.

Those were the words of the man who became famous with his perceived profane song “The Thing”.

Atumpan as a social responsibility to his country has summed up his opinion of the plight of the country in his new song titled DUMSOR, the Ghanaian parlance for the power crisis which literally means 'Off and On'.

Atumpan posted this on his Facebook wall as he led his followers to a link where his Dumsor track is available.

“DUMSOR OOH DUMSOR DUMSOR: This Energy crisis in Ghana is so embarrassing and disgraceful. After 58 years of independence we are still in total Darkness. Animguase3 paa nie”.

Atumpan is not the only musician to have composed a song over the power crisis as some songs have been enjoying radio play already. But perhaps, he is one of the known musicians to have done this.
