Ghanaian musicians have commended the government for embossing the image of Dr. Ephraim Amu renowned musician and nationalist, on the new twenty thousand cedi note.
In a press statement signed by Mr. Mac Tontoh of the Kete Warriors and Osibisa bands, the musicians said, "We regard the act to immortalise the memory of the composer of the famous 'Yen ara y'asase ni' in such a graphic manner as an acknowledgement of the contribution of musicians and other creative persons to overall national development."
The musicians said it is their hope that the honour done Dr. Amu would encourage all Ghanaian musicians to renew their commitment to ingenious music and the development of the country.
The statement called on musicians to channel their energy towards the full realisation of their creative endowments instead of involving themselves in issues that might disintegrate them.
"The current situation of musicians pulling at each other over various issues, including copyright and the use of the Gamugram adhesive label does not augur well for instituting a progressive and viable industry."
