Musicians Spanked 6-3 In Charity Match

A select team of players of the Black Stars spanked their Musician counterparts 6-3 in a Charity football match on Sunday at the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra.

The match dubbed ‘Soccer Fiesta’ was aimed at raising funds to support the revival of colts football in the country as well as children of the Royal Seed Orphanage, located in Kasoa. The match saw a galaxy of stars from both ends who defied a downpour earlier in the day to treat fans to a ‘delicious football meal’.

The footballers led by defender John Mensah had in their line up goal keeper Memunatu Sulemana of Black Queens fame, Lee Addy, John Mensah, Isaac Vorsah, Laryea Kingston, Sulley Muntari, Bernard Kumordzi, Derek Boateng, Kwadwo Asamoah, Anthony Annan, Daniel Opare, Matthew Amoah, former Stars captain Stephen Appiah and Baffour Gyan as well as former International Boxing Federation (IBF) Welterweight champions, Joshua Clottey.

Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan featured for the Musicians who paraded the likes of Batman, Castro, Tinny, Ben Brako, Amakye Dede, Klala, K.K. Fosu, Amandzeba Nat Brew, Osibo, Kwaisey Pee, Lucky Mensah, King David and ace comedian Funny Face.

It was fun-filled as the Music icons displayed some fine skills with the likes of Castro, Funny Face, Gyan (Baby Jet), Tinny and Amakye Dede earning plaudits from the fans. Paintsil, who played in an attacking role, scored two quick goals in the opening minutes before Boateng made it three just before half time.

Batman and Tinny failed to score from the spot with keeper Memunatu saving both kicks.Muntari scored the fourth goal upon resumption of the second half whilst Amakye Dede reduced the deficit for the Musicians from close range.

By the rules of the game, it was agreed that each goal scored by the Musicians counted for three.

As the clock ticked on, Muntari scored his second of the day before Appiah sealed victory for the Stars in the closing stages of the game.
