A Group of musicians calling themselves ‘Concerned Musicians’, who are not happy with the activities of the interim board of the Ghana Music Right Organisation (GHAMRO), a collective society tasked to manage GHAMRO for a period of six months, have called on the Attorney General and the Minister of Justice to appoint competent personalities with managerial skills to manage GHAMRO.
The musicians, who are members of the various music associations, at a meeting held on Tuesday night disclosed their intention to embark on a massive demonstration against the board for deleting over 1, 700 names from the GHAMRO membership list without consulting the right owners.
At the meeting, those who could not hide their feelings about the lapses at GHAMRO told BEATWAVES that the activities and utterances of certain members of the board were creating division among the stakeholders, adding that things must change as soon as possible.
“We lost total interest in the current interim GHAMRO board. We were not satisfied with its activities,” one of them said.
The musicians were of the view that those who agitated for the removal of the previous board and were asked by the court to take over for a period of six months had woefully failed after they were given the mandate to manage GHAMRO.
They however stressed the need for the various musicians’ groups to create a common front to pursue their interests, adding that divisions within their ranks were costing them a lot.
