Issues regarding Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) and their registered members who have not received their royalties from the organization appear unending as another gospel artiste has shared her discontentment.
Ewura Abena who is known for the popular song ‘Agye Me Nkwa’ featuring Nacy bemoans how for a period of time GHAMRO has refused to give her the royalties due her.
Her complain comes after GHAMRO has announced distribution of royalties to its members.
Known privately as Vida Ewura Abena Yeboah, Ewura Abena believes GHAMRO is taking their registered members for granted.
Ewura Abena posted her comments under GHAMRO’s official Facebook page.
“It is useless to collect royalties for people and not give it to them. Ghamro is just taking people for granted. Bro Ernest Kwasi tell your people I’m coming for them. Mifuani
“It’s not just me Breda. Plenty complains. No so ?kyere den? Must i even ask before I get what is due me? Ok Sir. I will down now“. [sic]
The Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) on Thursday, March 8, 2018 disburse royalties to its members.
The organization after it failed to distribute the royalties as promised in December 2017, issued a statement that the delay was due to the statutory blank levy payment from government they were yet to receive.
A statement signed by Prince Tsegah, Public Relations Officer of GHAMRO, said One million five hundred and sixty two thousand, seven hundred and ninety five Ghana cedis eighty five pesewas (GHC 1,562,795.85) was allocated to GHAMRO as payment for the statutory 20% Blank Levy as second tranche payment of 2017 and same was paid to GHAMRO on February 25th, 2018 by the Registrar General’s Department.
In line with section 19 of the Copyright Regulations of 2010, Legislative Instrument 1962 which provides for the statutory distribution percentages of 60% for distribution, 30% for administration and 10% for the welfare, the total funds for disbursement to members is GHC 937,677.51.
Management has also taken delivery of two saloon cars, namely Toyota Corolla and Toyota Yaris, to facilitate and enhance administrative activities of the society.
