Mutombo Da Poet extols GH music, praises Sark, EL and others

Spoken word artiste and poet, Mutombo Da Poet has shone light on the variety of music on offer in the country. Mutombo was a guest on the ‘Interculture Show’ in the US.

Asked by the co-host of the show why the hip-hop scene in Ghana was an upcoming trend, the gifted word man opined: “I would say the music scene in Ghana isn’t upcoming, Ghanaian music has travelled far and wide and it stands strong… from the days of ET Mensah, Osibisa, Ghana music has traveled far to Japan, the Americas, Jamaica.. so I wouldn’t say Ghanaian music is upcoming at all”.

On what makes music from Ghana so different, Mutombo explained use of local rhythms and instruments like the djembe as well as messages and lyrics used in the songs makes Ghana music stand out adding topics such as praise of the women folk, economy and desire to let the world in on the many offerings in the country also makes for interesting listening.

He noted artistes such as FOKN bois, Sarkodie, R2bess, EL, King Ayisoba and good old Ebo Taylor are but a few raising high the music flag of Ghana.
