As promised to keep the highlife genre alive, veteran artiste, Rex Omar is hopeful of making great impact after being consistent releasing good highlife tunes to achieve his purpose.
In his bid to sustain the highlife brand, the GHAMRO Chairman has released two singles in two months (Nhyira and Highlife Agogoo).
In an exclusive interview with Kasapafmonline.com’s Elikem Prince Akoenyenu, the ‘Dada di da’ hit singer disclosed that he is focused on putting the Highlife Music genre on the map and promoting it as much as he can.
He said that, he is taking it from two phases which is, to create awareness in Ghana and to also encourage most of the radio presenters to help in promoting it in and outside Ghana.
“I’m getting the content and material right to help promote the genre very well in the country. My second thing is targeting outside Ghana. I’m also encouraging some of the highlife artistes to help in doing so. I’ve been traveling from region to region to make sure everything is in order. We have 504 stations in Ghana right now so it’s difficult if the DJs themselves are not willing to help. I’m forming teams around every region to recruit people who are willing to help. As much as I’m promoting the highlife brand, this is also a serious investment I’m making and as to if I’d get my money back, that’s a different story. But it’s something that I’m hoping that as time goes on I’ll get some financial support from other angles to keep it going.” He told Kasapafmonline.com
According to him, he has also spoken to a couple of his colleagues who helped in bringing up the genre and so far there have been positive outcomes.
He further explained that, he was at a studio one time with Gyedu Blay Ambuley, also known as Uncle Blay and their conversation went well.
The highlife musician added that the technological system has brought a lot of changes to the music industry which has affected it poorly because it is difficult to make good money out of it lately.
The Veteran Musician is set to release a new song by the end of the month called ‘Why Where Who’ which he explained that, it will be in a form of Adowa.
