Kumawood actress and TV presenter, Mavis Donkor, popularly known as Sweet Mavis, has shared the traumatic experience of being poisoned by a group of friends who plotted to end her life.
In an interview on ‘Okukuseku the Talk Show ‘on December 10, 2024, Mavis revealed that a group of friends she trusted had planned to poison her.
“We were three friends who often hung out together. One day, they suggested we go out to eat, and since fufu is my favourite food, I agreed. We bought the food, and I paid. After being served, we decided to share the meal from the same bowl. Suddenly, the two of them said they weren’t interested in eating anymore. One claimed her father was sick, and the other said she’d received a call about her baby being ill.
“They both left, and I finished what I could. Little did I know, they had poisoned the food. I didn’t feel anything at first, so I took a taxi home, but by the time I got there, I was in severe stomach pain. At first, I didn’t take it seriously, but by 2 a.m., the pain became unbearable, and I was rushed to the hospital,” she stated.
She narrated further, “When I arrived at the hospital, they told me the nurses who could perform a scan were unavailable. I asked to be transferred to Korle-Bu, but they made me sign a letter stating that if anything happened to me on the way, they wouldn’t be held responsible. I had to call my father for help. Meanwhile, my friends had disappeared, and since I was in Kumasi with no family nearby, I reached out to a young man who had expressed interest in me for assistance.”
Mavis also opened up about another painful betrayal, disclosing that a close friend had an affair with her husband.
“I once brought a friend from Kumasi to Accra. She had nowhere to stay, so I invited her to my marital home. Interestingly, the times my husband would tell me he was going out were the same times my friend would also leave. I found out by checking my husband’s phone while he was asleep. This betrayal led to the breakdown of my marriage. I have been a single mother for the past 10 years,” she added.
