Former Information Minister, Fritz Baffour
Former Information Minister, Fritz Baffour has said his genre of comedy is no more.
The former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South Constituency noted that the contemporary stand-up comedy looks different from the erstwhile.
Baffour who was a stand-up comedian and actor told Kojo Preko Dankwa, host of Kasapa Entertainment on Kasapa 102.5fm Saturday May 5 that: “My kind of comedy has faded and I can’t do the new kind of comedy. May be I can act in a sitcom but to do a stand-up comedy, I can’t do it.”
Ghana as a country used to hold standup comedy high from the early days of Keysoap concert party sponsored by the then Lever Brothers and held at the Nation theater.
The comedy industry keeps growing and it’s great to see the current crop of comedians rubbing shoulders with their Nigerian counterparts.
Contemporary comedians like DKB, Foster Romanus, David Aglah, OB, Khemikal, Jacinta, Lekyzy De Comic, others are pushing the comedy industry to higher heights.
Fritz Baffour debunked rumours that he took up comedy because he was jobless after he had returned from Britain.
He had worked as a presenter and a producer for a British television. Baffour also hosted his own programmes called ‘Just For You’ in Liberia and ‘Sincerely Yours’ in Ghana.
He was also the managing director of the Ghana Tourism Development Company. As a journalist, Baffour worked for Agoo magazine, the Accra Daily Mail and at the same time did football commentary.
