Media personality, Afia Pokua, well known as Vim Lady, has said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, needs to work on his communication skills.

According to her, NAPO has established himself as one of the best politicians in the Ashanti Region and has helped create jobs for the youth, however, his communication skills are problematic.

She pointed out that the NPP needs to put in extra efforts to market NAPO ahead of the general elections because their opponent, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), selected Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang earlier and have a head start.

“I think NPP choosing NAPO as running mate means they need to double up their campaign efforts to catch up with NDC, who selected their running mate earlier and have had a couple of months to market her. As a result, they are slightly ahead. NPP's communication has been struggling over the years.

“NAPO is a fantastic human being who has built a strong base in the Ashanti Region and created opportunities for the youth in NPP. However, the general voting population is concerned that NAPO's communication flaws, together with NPP's own, will affect them,” she said in a video shared on Instagram.

What NAPO said about Kwame Nkrumah

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh's praise of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's government, which he believes is unmatched in Ghana's 67 years of independence, sparked controversies.

Speaking to party leaders and supporters in Kumasi on Tuesday, June 9, 2024, NAPO argued that no other Ghanaian president, including Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has driven the country's development as much as President Akufo-Addo.

NAPO asserted, "This is unprecedented in Ghana's history. Should President Akufo-Addo retire, I can confidently say that since Ghana's establishment in 1957, no president has been more beneficial to the state than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo."

NAPO's claim that no one - not even Kwame Nkrumah, has led and developed Ghana more than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo sparked strong criticisms on social media, with some condemning him for his disrespectful remarks.

Following the backlash, NAPO apologized to the public, stating that he had no intention of denigrating any president's image.
