The National Commission on Culture (NCC) has said it is alarmed by the growing trend of cross-dressing among male content creators in Ghana.

According to the body, such actions are an affront to the nation's cultural and moral values.

The Commission's concerns were heightened by a recent event at the Ridge Condos All Black Party in Kumasi, where several male influencers openly wore women's clothing and accessories.

In a report by graphic.com.gh, the Deputy Executive Director of the NCC, Dr. Richardson Commey Fio, described the trend as "disturbing" and "totally unacceptable," specifically in Kumasi, a city known for its rich cultural heritage.

Dr. Fio explained that cross-dressing is strongly disapproved of by Ghanaian society and warned against using globalization and modernity as a justification for degrading the moral fabric of communities.

“It is very disappointing that we continue to experience such behaviours that are an affront to our rich cultural values and norms.

“And for such an event to happen in Kumasi, one of the leading cities in Ghana where culture and traditions are held in high esteem, this is totally unacceptable.

“Certain bad elements in our society who want to denigrate our culture and tear down the good moral fibre of our communities for parochial gains always want to hide behind a misleading narrative of globalisation and modernism,” he said.

He urged individuals to uphold Ghana's cultural values and norms, rather than promoting behaviours that undermine them.
