NCC holds National Conference on culture

Accra, May 12, GNA - A National Conference on "Culture and Education" to create awareness of the importance of culture in formal education is to take off in Elmina, Central Region on May 16, a statement on Wednesday said in Accra.
The weeklong event is being organised under the auspices of the National Commission on Culture in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports and supported by Konrad Adenaeur Foundation of Germany and the Royal Netherlands Embassy.
The statement signed by Mr Nelson Akatey, Public Relations Officer of the Commission, said the conference would raise awareness of the importance of culture in formal education and examine the implications of culture in schools and colleges.
The aim is to create a platform for stakeholders in education and culture to examine the cultural curricula and the teaching of culture in formal education.
"It is expected that the conference will come out with strategies for the development of textbooks and other resources for the teaching of culture in our schools", the statement said.
