According to the FREE PRESS, an executive member of the Tema/Ashaiman branch of the NDC, has finally spilled the beans by admitting they rigged the 1992 and 1996 elections.

The man who gave his name as Lapozo Jnr, told the paper that, in the 1996 general elections, he was made to convey some youth from Tema to Ashaiman in Accra.

According to him, the said voters who numbered 400 were each paid ?10,000 as compensation for the role they played.

The executive member who looked confident during the revelation, noted that the group though did not have their names in the voters? register, were allowed by the electoral officers to vote. He recalled that, in the middle of the voting process, party agents of the other political parties detected the deal and called on the police who arrested most of them.

According to him, when the issue got to the notice of the NDC officials, an order came from the Castle urging the police to release them immediately, the directive which the police readily obliged.
