Ghanaian actress and an erstwhile presenter of TV Africa’s Sound Splash, Naa Ashorkor Mensah-Doku, is skeptical about the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) she and two others, Jackie Appiah and Lydia Forson, were nominated for.
The three were nominated for the same (best actress) category for their role in Shirley Frimpong Manso’s ‘Perfect Picture’, and are competing with Bimbo Akintola, Stephanie Okereke, Flora Suya and Akofa Edjeani Asiedu for their roles ‘Freedom In Chains’, ‘Nnenda’, ‘Season Of A Life’ and ‘I Sing Of A Well’ respectively.
The three were, however, not nominated separately and Naa is not too sure how the award is going to be given if they happen to win. She told NEWS-ONE that she does not know whether the three of them or one person would be rewarded if they win. The event is coming off on April 10 in Nigeria’s Bayelsa State.
The young lady, however, said that is not much of a worry to her. Rather she is appreciative of the fact that the AMAA jury recognized her work and had nominated her for that category. “I was humbled by the nomination. When I heard my name mentioned for the nomination, I was like oh my God, so my hard work is appreciated, I was flattered.
I was glad that people have seen what I have done and then they want honour me for it. The fact that I have been nominated is such a big deal. It doesn’t matter if I win the ultimate award or not. I will love to bring it to Ghana but for the nomination alone, I thank God for it.”
