Nana Frema explains why she limits posts about her children

Ghanaian musician Nana Frema Koranteng has explained why she deliberately limits how often she shares images and information about her children on social media.

According to the mother of two, her children have not yet reached an age where they can decide whether they want their lives exposed to the public, and she does not want to make that decision on their behalf.

“They didn't ask to be on social media,” Nana Frema told MzGee in an interview.

She explained that although she may occasionally share images of her children, such posts are usually limited and may later be removed.

“As time goes on, I'll probably put them once or twice, but I will remove it. I'll post and remove,” she said.

Nana Frema said her decision is also influenced by her concerns about the kind of attention children can attract online.

“Living has to be,” she said, before pointing to what she described as “bad eyes, bad minds and bad mouths” that can accompany public exposure.

For her, protecting her children's privacy takes precedence over regularly displaying their lives to her followers.

She believes that her children should eventually have a say in whether they want to maintain a public presence.

“When the time is right and they want to be on social media, they can be on,” she explained.

Nana Frema is a mother of two sons, Marshall and Jaden, and has previously shared parts of her motherhood journey with the public, including aspects of her pregnancies and childbirth experiences.

However, she appears to be drawing a distinction between sharing her own experience of motherhood and making her children regular subjects of public content.

Her position comes at a time when social media has made it increasingly common for parents, including celebrities, to document their children's lives online from infancy.

For Nana Frema, however, the decision ultimately belongs to the children when they are old enough to make it themselves.
