Narcotic suspects rearrested after being granted bail by Tribunal

Accra Sept 29, GNA - The Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) has again busted into a room belonging to Joseph N. W. Abueze one of the three suspects, who allegedly imported 48 kilograms of narcotic drugs concealed in sacks of rice. Abueze, self-employed and his accomplice Joseph K. Anim, a Shipping Agent, are currently in the custody of security personnel. The two, who are to reappear in court would face an additional charge of possessing equipment intended for production and distribution of narcotic drugs. The two suspects and Macdonald Chimandas Vasnani were granted 300 million cedis bail each by a Greater Accra Regional Tribunal on Monday when they appeared before it charged with importing and possessing narcotic drugs without authority and abetment of crime.

Anim, a Shipping Agent, are currently in the custody of security personnel. The two, who are to reappear in court would face an additional charge of possessing equipment intended for production and distribution of narcotic drugs. A source close to NACOB said following a tip off, security personnel conducted a further search in Abueze's house, where a room believed to have been used as a workshop was busted. The source alleged that the suspects were waiting for the 42 kilograms of narcotic drugs, which was to be re-bagged for transhipment to Europe but luck run out on them. The source said a search into a house of Abueze, revealed that one of the rooms was being used as a workshop for the re-bagging of narcotic drugs. It said a handsaw; glue and rollers allegedly used in grinding narcotic drugs were found. Other materials also found in the room were surgical gloves, electronic scales and screwdrivers. The source hinted that the equipment was to create false compartments in bags and stuffing of shoe soles.
