Natalia Andoh reveals she was rejected by a suitor's mother for being a single mom

Host of The Zone on Starr FM and Duvet on GHOne, Natalia Andoh, who got pregnant at age 19, revealed the mother of a prospective suitor rejected her because she was a single mother.

Speaking on the topic 'Woes of Single Motherhood' with MzGee on Just Being Us, Natalia said though the young man she was dating was madly in love with her, the love did not suffice his mother's stance in their affair.

“There is always a conversation because you have a child. I remember I dated this guy, he really liked me and I equally liked him. I met his mother one time, and she blatantly said to my face that—she asked me first—'Why didn’t my child’s father and I get married?' And I thought, 'You can’t just ask me that,' but I didn’t say that to her. I was thinking it,” Natalia wondered.

Natalia further narrated, “So I told her that it is really complicated, trying to be respectful and everything, and she said that I must not be a good woman because if I were, I would have been married to the person I had a child with. And she doesn’t see her son marrying someone who already has a child—that’s not going to happen. And she said that right to my face, and it totally broke my heart. I mean, it broke both our hearts.”

According to Natalia, it is unfortunate that women who have children out of wedlock face such embarrassment from the families of their suitors, while men who have children out of wedlock hardly go through such humiliation from the parents of their girlfriends.

“We didn’t break it off immediately, but we kind of held on, knowing that there is nothing here anymore—I won’t be—so we had to let it go. And these are some of the things that you would have to fight when you are a single parent because people will question you as a single mother. They never question the men.”
