National Philanthropy Forum-Ghana 2017 set to hold award ceremony

The second edition of the National Philanthropy Forum-Ghana is set to hold in Accra, with selected outstanding charitable individuals and organizations to be awarded at the year’s event.

The 2-day programme, which will premier the National Philanthropy Excellence Awards, is slated for March 23 and 24, 2017 at the Accra International Conference Center.

The conference, under the theme “Philanthropists As Agents of National Development”, is expected to bring together participants majorly from Ghana and other African states such as Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.

According to Dr. Ben Ocra, the president of the organizing group, “The summit will provide unmatched opportunities for Networking, Forging Partnerships and discovering ways to make greater and more meaningful Philanthropic Impact”.

The two-part programme, will on the first day have specific Policy Dialogue sessions laced with ad rem presentations from leaders in the humanitarian field, and be climaxed with the awards ceremony on the second day.

Accomplished ‘Third Sector’ professionals and managers, philanthropists, leaders in faith-based initiatives and leading social entrepreneurs will meet to share best practices in philanthropy and effective models for social change Speakers lined up for the event include: Anne Musyoki –Techsoup Africa -Kenya, Franklin Cudjoe – IMANI-Ghana, Mr. Kordzo Sedegah – USAID, Mr. Ibrahim-Tanko Amidu– STAR-Ghana, et al.

Mr. Derek Appiah – the country Manager for Microsoft Corporation-Ghana, will also be speaking at the function.

The 2016 edition of the forum convoked over 250 participants consisting of delegates from Ghana’s parliament, public sector institutions, development practitioners, seasoned professionals in academia and the philanthropy fraternity.

It also saw the initial draft of 10 policy recommendations designed to assist government in creating an enabling environment for Ghana’s philanthropy space.

At this year’s summit, the policy recommendations draft from last year’s edition will be validated and adopted to present to the government of Ghana. There will also be the unveiling of Microsoft's Global Support Package for NGOs in development.

About the National Philanthropy Forum-Ghana

The event is an annual convergence of local and transnational charitable individuals and foundations, Civil Societies organization, as well as corporate bodies, sharing and brainstorming on key strategies for societal growth through philanthropy.

The National Philanthropy Excellence Awards

The National Philanthropy Excellence Awards, which is an offshoot of the National Philanthropy Forum-Ghana, was instituted to recognize the efforts of individuals and organizations as well as corporate bodies in their pursuit of humanitarian causes.

The Awards are presented to individuals, families, foundations or organizations with a proven record of exceptional generosity through direct financial support, and whose effort inspires others to become philanthropic leaders.

The awards will be introduced at this year’s forum and will feature in subsequent editions of the annual event.
