National Seminar On New Copyright Act

Under the auspices of the Government of Ghana, the Copyright office in collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is organizing a national seminar on the new Copyright Act, Act 690, on the theme, "Copyright Protection and National Development", at the KAMA Conference Centre from May 8 - 10.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), which is based in Geneva, Switzerland, is the UNO's specialized agency on matters relating to intellectual property rights.

The seminar is for the benefit of stakeholders in the copyright industry such as musicians, performers, authors, publishers, phonogram producers, computer software developers, broadcasters, etc as well users of copyright works.

It is aimed at educating stakeholders in the copyright industry and users of copyright works on the new Copyright Act, Act 690 and new issues emerging in the international scene. It will be recalled that the Copyright Act was passed by Parliament in December 2004.

The Act received presidential assent and took effect in May and June 2005 respectively.
