Nescafe African Revelations NAR is on the road to becoming a household name in Ghana. NAR stands for Nescafe African Revelations. This is a musical talent hunt, which seeks to discover and nurture young African musical talent, not only in Ghana, but throughout the West and Central African sub-region.
By way of reminder, Nescafe African Revelations is a local and sub-regional experience, which through serious yet fun competition, NESCAFE discovers celebrates and rewards young and fresh African musical talent.
The objective of NAR is to make young African musical talents known, both in their countries of origin and on a sub-regional level. This is NESCAFE?s way of rewarding its consumers and promoting its values of sociability, pleasure and open mindedness, its consumers and promoting its values of sociability, pleasure and open-mind ness.
The event is carried across the West and Central African region, so 6 countries took part in 2004. On board were of course Ghana, Senegal, Cote D?Ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger.
Looking for groups of between three to four people, NESCAFE went on a nationwide tour auditioning and selecting the finest acts, of which 14 groups made it to the national finals, which were held in Accra in September.
The winning group walked away with the most fantastic prize package the Ghanaian music scene has ever seen. They have now recorded their debut album with OM Lowdown Music. This album and the group is about to receive heavy promotion during the coming months on television, radio, print, billboard and live events. It is now left for them to make a name for themselves by providing their listeners and audiences with top class musical performances.
The group moved into their house in November and have been chauffeured in their VW Transporter wherever they have wanted and needed to go.
Also starting next Wednesday on TV3, and subsequently every Wednesday at 9pm, is a new TV series, which is composed of general news on music in Ghana, and has a reality TV segment, which covers the rise of Praye on their way to becoming stars. You will see them moving into their NESCAFE house in the studio recording their album, and much more.
However, and the main reason we are here today, is that the fun and climb to the top doesn?t end there. The winning group is getting ready to compete against the winners from 5 other competing markets in West and Central Africa. If they win, they will be promoted throughout the sub-continent where they will perform live shows and have their music videos flooding the televisions screens in these other countries.
Praye needs Ghana?s support to make it to the top. From Wednesday 16th Feb, a voting campaign will begin to see which of the groups performs the best throughout the competing countries in West and Central Africa. This will be hosted on television, on the website ? www.narghana.com, and through live balloting nationwide.
From the 16th, Praye and team of others will tour the country giving performances and providing a night of entertainment for audiences wherever they stop. During these shows, footage of all the competing groups will be shown on a big screen, and audiences will vote there and then for their 3 favourite groups.
Apart from travel and sub-regional promotion, the winners will also walk away with their own home studios.
The sub-regional event will take place on 19th March 2005, at Independence Square, Accra.
All six groups will have to show off their best. They will be sharing the stage with some great and well-seasoned musicians, including from the sub-region, Meiway, amongst others.
As a last word, I just want to emphasis that NAR is far from over. 2004 was only the first year. With your continued support and our constant learning?s, it will become bigger each year.
