Popular Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, Bobrisky
Popular Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known within the entertainment industry as Bobrisky, has been released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre after six months of imprisonment.
In a viral video shared on X, formerly Twitter, Bobrisky was escorted out of the correctional centre while his family, some media personnel and fans waited on him.
Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison for abusing and tampering with the Naira by a Federal High Court in Lagos.
According to Nigeria's laws, a person who tampers with a Naira note or coin is guilty of an offence punishable by law.
Vanguard Nigeria reported that Bobrisky was not given the option of a fine during the sentencing on Friday, April 12, 2024.
According to the judge, Justice Abimbola Awogboro, the crossdresser’s sentence was to set an example and deter other people from damaging the Nigerian naira in any way or form going forward.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro mentioned that Bobrisky’s jail term began on the day of his arrest, March 24, 2024.
The crossdresser, who has always insisted that his many followers refer to him as a woman, was made to spend his jail time in the men’s prison.
