One has no peace of mind without the provision of healthy food, access to portable water, employment among others. Broadening the definition for peace to include values that ensure the wellbeing of society is critical to limiting it to the absence of violence or war.
In efforts to building peace mindset for sustainable national development, the Chief of Ashaiman, Nii Adzor has joined in the campaign for collective responsibility to ensuring sustainable peaceful environment. The programme was organized in collaboration with Environmental Health Club; a Tema based non-governmental organization and the Beauty Media Peace Call Initiative to strengthen the call for national peace and development.
Miss Lamisi Sam Awinonga, Ghana’s Most Beautiful Queen 2009, before her beginning address was introduced by Robert Kwami Bako Amiteye the Project Coordinator of the Environmental Health Club to share the peace call values at the Ashaiman Senior High School.
In his introductory message, he said that the call for peace must be linked to sustainable quality of life by all. He stressed on the need for a healthy relationship with our environment and called for peace as the provisions and values that improve the wellbeing of society. He said that the Beauty Media Peace Call Initiative is designed to inculcate the need for peace mindsets from early childhood upbringing. The value of time in our daily actions should be considered a vital pillar for positive development, he added.
Lamisi in her turn shared with the audience of over 1,500 students that the Beauty Media Peace Call Initiative values, are intended to educate the citizenry to consider access and extension of portable water, quality education, better health care facilities and services as key features to ensuring sustainable peace for national development. She appealed to the audience to consider the peace call values among others in the upcoming elections.
Nii Adzor called for the involvement of all in efforts to changing the negative perception of Ashaiman and its people. The Chief was optimistic that education and discipline would form key ingredients in the rebranding process of Ashaiman. Concerning the December elections, Nii Adzor called for all inclusiveness to stay away from any unproductive engagements that have worrying results. In his ending note address he expressed appreciation to the school and its authorities for sharing in the values for social good.
The Headmaster of the Ashaiman Senior High School on his part said, the call for peace should be a process for all to contribute to sustain and not to be seen as vital only during election period. He thanked the Chief and his elders and members of the Beauty Media Peace Call Initiative. Selina Korletey of Miss Tourism Ghana 2012 and Matilda Densu of the Miss Earth Ghana 2012 group attended the function.
In a related development Lamisi, Selina and Matilda led by Robert Amiteye paid a courtesy call to the Metro Head of the National Disaster Management Hajia Zinabu Yakubu at the Tema Metropolitan Assembly in Community one.
