Accra Aug. 13, GNA- Nkasei, composers of the controversial Toubodom, hip-life song have expressed mixed feelings about public reaction to the song's lyrics.
The composers said their only intention for releasing the album, which comprised the hit song was to entertain the public and not for sinister motives.
Isaac Mensah, a co-composer of the song, told the Ghana News Agency on Saturday in Accra that although he felt threatened by the reaction of a section of the Ghanaian public, he was happy that the song had attracted good market and patronage.
He, however, said "we are suppose to make people happy by entertaining them with our songs but Toubodom make me feel like I am a failure."
Mr Clement Yeboah, the other co-composer known as "Shy" expressed worry about the controversy that the song had generated and that the intention of the composers to entertain the public had taken a negative turn.
He said: "We cannot reverse it. It is unfortunate because as composers we owe it a duty to entertain the people". Mr Yeboah said a committee had been set up by Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) to meet the elders of Toubodom, the town, which featured prominently in the lyrics, to settle whatever problems, might have arisen as a result of the song. He said Nkasei would then follow suit and organize a live concert in the town and proceeds of the show donated to the town. Alhaji Siduku Buari, President of MUSIGA urged musicians to cross check lyrics in their song to remove offensive languages before coming out to the public. 13 Aug. 05
